The MOLINOS HOTEL is situated in the street of the same name, in the town quarter of REALEJO; both, street and quarter were the scenery of decisive moments in the history of Granada.
|
| REALEJO, situated on the foot of the Alhambra hill, was full of palaces, vegetable gardens, and royal gardens -to which it owes its name-, where the Moorish Kings spent their summers. The legend tells us about extended underground passages that
communicate these sites with the Alhambra fortress; these secret passage ways inspired Wahington Irving's narration: "The Tale of the one-armed Governor and the Soldier".
These precincts which lived the beginning of the Islamic occupation were also the scenery of the event that put an end to it: the entry of the Christian army through Molinas gate and street after having taken possession of the town. |

At present, in spite of all that has been said to show its important historical significance, REALEJO is not a museum but a town quarter full of life: its monasteries, churches, and
ancestral homes exist side by side with a lively and varied commerce and its unique atmosphere of numerous bars and terraces, where you can have your "tapas" (small apetizers) or a drink, or enjoy the delicacies of a "good cooking" (the best restaurants of Granada are located in Realejo).
But, what's more, the MOLINAS HOTEL is at only 2 minutes of a pleasant walk from the shopping district of Granada and the town's monumental nucleus of the CATHEDRAL.
